Exercise Everywhere!
But it isn't just enough to restrict your intake of food, you must exercise!  The John Muir Trail is a perfect place to get exercise, with you backpacking up, and then down, and then up, and then down, and then up again!  As you head south, each "up" gets higher than the one before, too!  This continually forces you to exert yourself more, as you climb to a higher and higher elevation.

As you will learn, your pack isn't very heavy, but it still has weight to it, and you will be picking it up and taking it off, at various times through out the day.

Little hot from all of that hiking?  Then how about a little swim in a high alpine lake?   No river handy, then take a cool plunge in a river along the way.

While hot springing isn't going to give you any exercise, it will make sore muscles feel better. You will stop at every hot spring, as Purple Hat loves hot springing.

This year, one trip is being offered:  a 30 day (+/-) swimming trip, in which you will swim in every lake along the John Muir Trail.  The miles you backpack daily vary, but aren't very high.  Purple Hat has found that it isn't really necessary to hike very far to get this weight loss.  Generally, at the start of the trip, you will hike fewer miles per day, and then as you get towards the end, you will hike more miles per day.  This is possible as you have acclimated, are in much better shape cardiovascularly and muscularly, have lost weight, and your pack is lighter!

Additionally, participants on this trip will have a chance to be written about in Purple Hat's new book, Purple Hat Swims the John Muir Trail!

And as a final bonus, there will be at least 5 island swims!

Imagine swiming across the right side of this lake!
We will swim to the big island!
Golden Stair Case!
We will swim around this island!
